Testors Paint

For those of you that use Testors for cresting and striping. Does it need to be thinned for pin stripes or is it fine as it comes in the bottle?

Any additional tips you would like to share?

I personally don't thin Testors when using it on my arrows. Some folks thin it but I have quite a few different small brushes I use and this works fine for me.

Tip: I store mine upside down so the lid are stays wet and this makes it very easy to open even if the bottle is old and I hasn't been used for a while. They have a great website and many different colors available there that aren't in a hobby shop.

I have never thinned it.

Works better with a couple drops of thinner added.

both. it depends for me the age of the paint. the older paint i have i had to thin it. it seemed not to flow well the new 1s i got are great without adding anything

What do you use for a sealer over it? Polyacrylics? I would think anything that is "hotter" would melt Testors..?

I had the same experience as $bowhunter$. I've got some paint more than 8 years old just added some thinner and works fine.

I am useing it for the first time this year on my first doz. wood arrows. They came out ok but I didn't clear over and they seem to be pushing? the stripes, comeing off the rest.Next set i'm deff. going to seal over if I find the right stuff.Put the crown on with rustoliam,works good.   Dan

I use water base minwax to seal with. Pick it up at any box store....blue label.

The minwax product is called Polycrylic and can be found in hardware stores just about anywhere.

I use most as they come. If I happen to have bottle that is a little thick for my taste I'll add some thinner.

An old timer taught me a thinning trick to use. Add a drop or two and just mix a little corner of you paint to plan to use. Then just dip out of your little corner. Saves on thinner (especially lacquer types)

Never thinned.
have become a big fan of 3rivers water based sealer. Goes on easy, doesnt flake off like gasket laquer and can be used over about any paint. Dries clear and so far stays clear.

Testors Acrylics for me now. Clear coat is Dalys Profin. Had compatibility issues with the regular Testors enamels. Especially the metallics for pin stripes. They ran on me several times. No issues since switching to Testors acrylics. Buy mine at Hobby Lobby and also from the website if it is a color not on the shelf.
