I'm not sure that it's carbon. If my memory serves I think the extra glass layer in the Imperial model was simply that - glass used as an extra reinforcement for FF string. I could be wrong so maybe someone that knows for sure will add. I know the time line for the Imperial was more than 12 years ago because I still have one that I purchased at least that long ago.
