Help me out with more recomendations
« on: May 01, 2011, 06:50:00 PM »
So im still trying to figure out which bow I want to get. I've been pretty keen on getting a Widow pchx, but don't know if I want to spend that much (although not opposed to it). And I know my second bow will be a blacktail elite (second only because of the wait time)

So recvomend me other bows or bowyers to look at under a grand.I know its not a recurve (not a necessity) but I also looked at Kanati.

So who do you guys recommend for quality, solid, good performance hunting bows?

Thanks
Fin

I haven't bought a bow in over twenty five years, been building my own.  If I was going to buy I would get a Dale Dye, those are beautiful bows.  I would also like to have a Rocky Mountain Recurve another really cool bow.  I am the process of building one very similar to the RMR now.

MT, check out Dan Toelke up in Ronan. I would go as far as to recommend paying him a visit at his shop, it would be well worth the drive.

Zipper and Stalker bows. Both sponsors, check their web sites, give them a call.

You can't go wrong with 2nd hand. There are a lot of great bows out there that you could buy. For the money you might be able to pick up 2 bows.

Just came back from shooting my Zipper SXT. Stacking arrows like a champ. I love the grip and the bow is just smooth as anything.

You have listed 2 of my favorites already . The Black Widow and Kanati are very solid bows . I also like RER bows , Treadway bows  , Hummingbird bows , and for a D shaped bow i like Mohawk bows .

Do yourself a favor and contact Dan Toelke and go shoot his new take-down Lynx recurve. It can also be had with long bow limbs or as a combination. It is a superb performer by any measure.

I've been working with Bill on my new Zipper SXT.  Can't beat the bows or the bowyer.  Great guy, great customer service and you can find plenty on here regarding beauty and performance of Zipper bows.

Dont know where ur at in montana but if your looking for a recurve i would go to Dale Dye Trails End bows and if your lookin for a longbow definately Jim Neaves at Centaur Archery. Both are in Hamilton and both are top of the line anywhere in the world.

As you noticed your question has lots of differant answers.Go to our sponsors list as you can't really go wrong. Its more a personnel decision as to what you like. The two you first mentioned are top of the line.I own both your first pics great bows. You won't wait nearly as long for a Widow .

I'd watch the classifieds closely.  Try several used bows before you drop the cash and the wait time on a new one and you be more likely to get what you want.  No matter what you want to try, one will show up in the classifieds before too long and if you don't like it you can pretty much sell or trade it for what you paid for it.

I have always bought used, never lost any money on the ones that I didn't keep.  I have a Blacktail on order after owning two used ones.  My second favorite bow is a used Dale Dye Snakeoil recurve.  Might have to get on his list too now that I know I like his work.  I would personally never buy a new custom bow without trying one for a while first.  Good luck in your quest.
