planted my new ground blind

mornin gang many of you may do this already but I thought I'd share. I went to the club this morning and planted my new ground blind for next years hunting season. Papus grass the gaint bushes you see at the end of folks driveways, I planted a couple about 6 foot apart to be used as huntin blinds next year. We used to do that duck hunting and it worked great, 3 men could hide with no problem. the bushes are quiet they are there year round so the deer get used to them being there and they offer great concealment. something you may want to try for yourself its cheap and works great

nc that is a great idea! I have been compound hunting all my life and just last year I took the plunge into trad. You trad guys are true hunters! I will have to give that a shot!

I'm with PEL on this one, I have seen it take over flower gardens where it was planted and it is hard to kill off.

I hope it works well for you nc.  Keep an eye on it though because the seeds may give you more than you want in the future.

My apologies for being one of the naysayers on this one.  It is a good idea but species selection may not be the best in this case.  As mentioned above Pampas grass can be a real problem.  It is not a native species and will often become an invasive and hard to control problem in our ecosystems.  Some places have it listed as a noxious weed making it illegal to plant.  I spend a large part of my management time and efforts helping landowners plan and implement invasive species control.  I hate to see when us hunters potentially increase future problems in the name of cover/food plot/hiding places.

Not trying to beat on you nc, just some information for everyone to consider.

just for giggles I rode out to the old duckblind we plant 6-7 years ago to see how much it had spread. Well the plants are HUGE but there are still only the orignal 4, so I figure it's safe to leave the ones I planted at the club. Thank you for makin me thinkin about my project for other angles tho, I hadn't thought of it spreading.

Good news then, it sounds like you might not have much to worry about.  There are several varieties of that grass and some are more problematic than others, and in some locations more than others.  I hope yours work out well and I hope you get to shoot many arrows from your ground blind.

What part of eastern NC?  Any chance you'll get a bear from your new hide?

I have seen it planted for a very long time and have never seen it spread.  But it is also cut backed and burned every few years.  I planted some red cedars for the same reason a few years ago.
