A FREE READ of "The Witchery of Archery" ONLINE
« on: May 06, 2011, 12:03:00 PM »
While I cannot find my copy of Maurice Thompson's Witchery of Archery from 1878, I WAS able.....purely by ACCIDENT!! able to find a FREE webpage of the book, in it's entirety.

For all you young whippersnappers that never have had the privledge of reading this....I share this link with you........and you old farts too!

An enjoyable read of a time before seasons, licenses, pretty much any rules.  Some of the things there will astound you. I promise.

God Bless
Steve

It's quite a read. For those unknowning (has to be a few) imagine a LONG LONG hunt in a much larger Okeechobee swamp in Florida...... "catamount" battles in the middle of the night, 60-80 yard shots they SET UP FOR, ducks and various other birds on the wing multiple times, head shots (dont freak) on deer in the night, a "case" of arrows along in the boat, long range shots STANDING in a boat, bows that need "oiled" at night, left unstrung till time to shoot..........wow.

and last but not least?  A chapter on wood pecker hunting as great practice. LOL!!!

Just some highlights. Webpages DO disappear so, just a head's up on that.

God Bless

Also, you can get it in EPUB format for your E-reader and unlike a web page it shouldn't disappear.

"toxophilite mania"

Love it.

Thank you, Steve. That's pretty cool. I've bookmarked it. That's also a pretty cool thing, the open library project, I mean. There was a lot of really good hunting/adventure books written in the 1870s and 1880s that are a hoot to read.
