Last Day KY Gobbler down, with flint and cane!
« on: May 08, 2011, 02:50:00 PM »
Been hard fellers, storming on the days I had to hunt, gobblers been henned up, but today it all came together. Had a #23 gobbler, 10 &1/2 inch beard, and one inch spurs worn down to round nubs come in hot to my jake and hen decoys at 11:45pm, only gobbled once, came in to fight, got a dose he wasnt expecting. He ran, flew, jumped about 60 yards. I had to wade the creek, then walk back with him to get my gear, and about 800yds back to the truck. I was about burnt up, hot and humid. I got a few pics after taking off my ghillie, will try to send them from my phone. I hit him with a rivercane arrow, and a flint tip from Eric 101 on here that weighed about 500grains out of my #48 Quinn Stallion. I lost both the arrow and the tip in the fly off, but a great hunt neverthless! I will try to get pics to someone to help me post later. Just thought I would share fellers, dont give up till it is over. Sam.

Great job Sam! Its been a rough season for us.

I hunted all day yesterday and worked one for nearly 2 hours and simply could not get him to come in. Then moved to another spot and got on a bird and here comes a Rhino and 4-wheeler and the bird just shuts off. I stepped out into the road and the people drive up on me and ask me if I am turkey hunting there, and I tell them "nope, not anymore". Then they tell they heard some on the other side of the big hollow fill I was hunting. I just said thanks. I was hot!

Anyway, congrats and would love to see what the flint head of Erics did to that bird.

I think I may go give it one more shot this evening but I am pretty sure its about wound up for the spring hunt!

On to squirrel season!

Awesome Sam!  I heard 2 birds below the house in the fog this morning, but figured I'd better stay w/ my wife this morn. for Mothers Day.  It's been a rough couple of days on her.
Congrats to you Sam!

Way to go Sam! You were using a ghillie suit instead of a blind? That is awesome.I am getting set up to do that without being in a blind as well but it will have to wait till next season now. What distance was your shot?
