Im sure glad you now lease property in Texas. Deer season is just around the corner and I saved this quote along with pics of all those tiny sewer bass. Good shootin by the way!     Good thing those fish don't string jump. They'd be a reeeealy tough target. Coingrats! CK

Roger... gar can be small or big depending on the species. The ones in the picture are short nosed gar which seldom exceed 2 feet in length. Very common in the backwaters and creeks off of the Mississippi river.
Matter of fact they can be very small... like this one that my son shot a few years back.

This little guy may actually be a spotted gar which don't get any bigger than the short nose variety.

The absolute king of the Gar family is the Alligator gar that grows to weights in excess of 300 pounds, but I don't have a pic of one of those. They've mostly disappeared from the waters of this state.
I'll be traveling to south Texas this summer on a quest for one of the real big ones with buddies Curtis Kellar and Jason Wesbrock.

Here is an average, small, adolescent alligator gar.

This pic represents three species of gar. All the way to the left is a longnose gar, the same as the one Charlie is holding in his "Hollywood" pic. The largest fish in front, turned sideways is a baby alligator gar(best eating species). All others are the tiny spotted/shortnose gar. Im not sure of the difference between the spotted and shortnose gar. I think they may be the same species. I could be wrong but I know the spots light up in the boat lights at night. There's no mistaking which species they are when they rise.

Watch your step! The deck get's a little slick!!! CK

Those are some HUGE frogs......  We used to have a bunch like that around these parts, seems they are slowly becoming harder and harder to find...

That is some good shooting Charlie.  I did not no what you did with them after you shot them.  Fertilized new fruit trees.

Nice shooting    We can start shooting carp here on the 15th of May, leave it to NY to put a season on an invasive species   :banghead:

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. TGMM ♥
