what are your book recomendations?
« on: May 16, 2011, 08:40:00 PM »
I just finished E. Donnell Thomas Jrs' book "Longbows in the far north" today and need some book ideas. I am looking for trad bowhunting (or any hunting really) that is mostly hunting stories and adventures etc. I am on the waiting list for the "A man made of Elk" pass around so that one will be awhile.

So what do you guys like?

Thanks,
Fin

(P.s if someone has something and want to swap and read my book PM me  :)  )

"Hunting Open Country Mule Deer" by Dwight Schuh is a good read.

"My Neck Of The Woods" by Bryce Lambley is a good read.

A man made of elk is such a good book you should get a copy, you'll want to read it a few times.

A couple of books that you don't hear of as often, but remain among my favorites are by Mark Siedschlag. "Autumn Leaves" and "Searching for the Wild".  Lots of other great books will be mentioned, but don't miss Mark's works.

One With the Wilderness by Mike Mitten fits that bill perfectly.

I'll second "Hunting Open Country Mule Deer."

My Mom got me a book for Christmas that she picked up at the airport called "The Bucks Camp Log." It's the entries in a log from a hunting camp in Wisconsin. It has entries from 1917 to 1932ish I believe. Very cool read.

for archery history and adventure all in one, consider

Fred Bears Field Notes
Hunting with the Bow and Arrow - Saxon Pope
Bows on the Little Delta
The Witchery of Archery
Be strong and of good courage, do not be afraid or be dismayed for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go - Joshua 1:9

American Buffalo by Steven Rinella. Not archery, although he is a bowhunter, but you will know more about buffalo than you could ever imagine.
Excellent reading!

Elkheart, Dave Petersen. Come November, Gene Wensel. The Traditional Way, Fred Anderson. These are the ones I re-read most years. Dave's other books are all great reads, and he recently re-released "Ghost Grizzlies" with some more photos, I think.

Try to find a copy of Bill Negley's book about his African experiences. I have one of his signed orginials. Truely, a traditional archery pioneer.
