Wood arrows and elk

Since we are discussing various hunting arrows, how many of you use wood arrows when hunting elk?

I do, using 600-grain Douglas Fir, and either 160-grain two-blade heads or the big Snuffers. I could not ask for better performance.

Elk have been my primary source of meat for over 30 years, and I've used wood arrows on all but three of the bulls I've killed. Those were the first three, and I used aluminum arrows at the time. (I was young and didn't know any better.)

Killed several with woodies! I shoot wood only also.

Yep.  Killed a couple of elk with wood arrows, an Alaskan moose, as well.  Been shooting wood for 50 years.  It gets the job done.

It's a proven fact, 9 out of 10 elk prefer to have the air let out of them by wood arrows.   ;)

Wood only here!

Speaking of wood arrows and their effectiveness:  I have a friend who shoots a self bow that, with plain ole cedar arrows shoots at a blistering speed of 151 ft. per second,  he has killed five elk with stone dead!
Keep flinging those shafts!

I like wood. It has more character. I keep playing with the other types of shafts but always hunt with wood. Gary

I haven't seen an elk here yet, but I have killed a massive bull camel, large boars and a small brumby with timber (Douglas fir) arrows.

I look at it this way... if you couldn't kill animals including elk with wooden arrows, none of us would be here as our ancestors would have starved to death or worse been vegetarians.
