Suggest a 3 piece longbow for me
« on: May 19, 2011, 01:56:00 PM »
What I am looking for is a 3 piece td longbow with a substantial recurve type riser and a generous sight window. I am currently shooting a Firefly which I really love but I have trouble shooting it real consistently. One problem I have is the sight window is not as large as I would like and it distracts me and causes me problems when trying to anchor and pick a spot. I was a recurve shooter previously and always favored heavier, more substantial risers. The Firefly is very quiet and launches an arrow with authority but I am thinking I may be able to find a 3 piece td longbow that performs as well but has a more substantial riser and larger sight window. The looking I have done so far has me wondering about a Brackenbury Non Typical (although there is a long wait time) or a Zipper.  Any suggestions or comments are welcomed.  Thanks.
To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

Dan -
Take a look at Bob Lee Archery. They are a sponsor here. I shot one of their 3 piece longbows last weekend at the Chester shoot and was so impressed that I ordered one before I left. Rob (Bob's son) tells me that delivery is about 5 weeks.

I've owned some of the above mentioned,
I'll get a new bow and shoot it exclusively for a couple months.Really get connected w/ it.
Then I'll pull out the Habu triple carbon longbow and w/ the first shot I'll be wondering why I bought that other bow!
I know Chris is overpriced and a waiting list that's ridiculous but his bow is a stept ahead IMO.

My objective has been to own one hybrid(which has been a dream), one great fitting recurve, one compatible short LB for blind hunting and one special 'D' shaped bow. My goal has been to own four completely different bows which provide four completely different enjoyable experiences.

The three pc hybrid w/LB limbs' slot has been sealed for quite some time. I had shot a buddies bow over several years and each time the experience  was the same. This bow at even 10#'s heavier than my desired draw wt was quite discernably more comfortable than any of my high end bows which I had shot 1000's of times. Bow fit is extremely personal and this one happened to be a Habu. Emptied my stable to fund a Vyperkahn w/triple carbon LB limbs. Familiarity with the Habu served to make this a biased calculated risk. The challenges of filling the other slots are still ahead of me.

I'm liking my Kota Prairie Nomad. It's one of those bows that I always shoot well. Some of my other bows require a few shots to get in the groove. Pick my Kota, and the arrows just go where they are supposed to from the first shot. Doesn't have the recurve type riser, though. Does have a nice grip, though.
