Well, as you know, the story doesn't end here. I still have a daughter that hasn't yet shot a bear. I've got to get some things done and will continue in a while.

Awesome bear. Better make several copies of that video cause I bet the first copy gets worn out quick.

Meeting and having the Receveur family in camp was an honor! Terry and Tina have created a model family and are a joy to be around.

Congrats Tyler on a beautiful bear and on being the 1st to take a bear with Stickflingers!

Ryan, it was our pleasure in meeting you, David, and your parents! You have certainly put together a wonderful place and operation to hunt big quality bears. Stickflinger's Manitoba Bowhunts did everything and more than we expected.

Ryan, has a couple hunt openings left and if you want to spend a week in a wonderful camp, with wonderful people, and with a terrific chance at a big or color phased bear, then you should jump on the openings. I really don't think it is a question of getting a bear, just more of how big and what color.

Ryan, I sure hope we get a chance to hunt with you again. I'm optimistic that Jen will recover from this let down and want to hunt again, but you never know. She is hurting pretty good right now. Brings tears to my eyes just thinking of it.

We all know losing an animal is just part of hunting, but dang it sure does feel like a big "punch in the gut"!

Wow Terry, What a great story.  I feel for Jen esp after being in camp with you two this past fall and knowing that it was a tough hunt.  You're doing a fine job as a dad and mentor to both Tyler and Jen.

Congratulations to Tyler.

So sorry for Jen....tell her we've all been there and it doesn't get any easier to deal with when it happens after doing this for 30yrs.

She's a good hunter and a great kid!  I bet soon she'll look at this as a great learning experience, move forward, and do it perfect next time!!

Hang in there Jen

I did want to mention one point for clarification above. I said we were done hunting after Jen lost the bear she shot. Stickflingers has a policy of "if you draw blood, you punch your tag" whether you find it or not. That is one of the reasons I chose to hunt with Ryan. We owe the animal that level of respect and we owe the future hunters that level of respect.

When David, Ron, and Bea saw how hurt Jen was I could see the wheels turning in their heads and I know they would be calling Ryan and trying to devise a plan for her to keep on hunting. I have no doubt in my mind that if Jen wanted to keep hunting that she could have.  If we did that it would have put Ryan in a very bad position if any other future hunter wounded a bear and wanted to keep hunting. We just couldn't put Ryan in that position. Besides, it also gives him a very strong story to tell anyone who may ask. Any hunter worth knowing couldn't possibly keep hunting after losing a shot bear, after hearing about the beautiful little 17 year old girl with tears just streaming down her face, who wouldn't keep hunting because it isn't the right thing to do. Ryan, please honor your policy!

I know several of the hunters coming in to hunt with Ryan next week and if I were a betting man I'd lay down some significant cash that to a man they would all willingly give up their tag if it meant Jen could get a bear. They are just that type of person. That's another reason why we had to stop hunting. It was and is the right thing to do for all involved parties. Just think how horrible Jen would feel if she kept hunting and hit and lost a 2nd bear. That would certainly be devastating to all.  Jen was such a trooper and she truly understood the reason for not hunting anymore and said "dad, if we kept hunting it would be taking away a bear that one of Ryan's other hunters might get"!  I know how much it hurt her, but I couldn't have been more proud of her choice.
