It's that Time of Year Again...Team Tippit
« on: May 21, 2011, 01:59:00 PM »
I know it's about time for the St Judes Auction...but it's also time to forge up a new style Team Tippit broadhead.  With Bear Quest just around the corner, I needed to come up with something different again.  I think this is generation 4 or 5 for tippit broadheads.  Got three in the oven tempering now.

Here's how they all start off from a bar of 1080 high carbon steel.  Head shaped & tapered on the point & edges.  Back in the forge to be finished up.  More pictures to follow...tippit

Nice start Jeff

Could you tell me about the hammer again, I forgot where you said you got it & I'm feeling the urge to go buy one.

I forged three broadheads...two will be on my quiver along with a Glen St Charles Mikey Finn broadhead as my bear hunting bow will be a St Charles Thunderbird...Jay's re-make of Glenn's bow from the fifties.  The third one goes to Ted Fry as he was gracious enough to lend me a Mickey Finn even if it gets lost in a bear  :scared:

After attending the Tenn Classic where everyone was doing primative arts...selfbows and flint knapping, I wanted these to look more primative.  I left the tangs off and made them more like a knapped head.  My two heads weigh in @ 300gr making Benjy's Cane arrows 750gr.  Ted's broadhead is 260gr...tippit

Thought for a minute you were gonna say the hammer was on loan from Thor  :)

Great looking head Jeff! 2nd,3rd and 4th generation have worked very well for me. You must forge some serious mojo in them.

Perhaps we should start a list of all the adventures your broadheads have been on.....
Your third generation head will be going after elk this fall.

I've been looking at the Bear Quest threads for a several years.  Can't wait to actually experience that camp.  Looking forward to seeing these heads with my own eyes.  Great looking combo.
