Anyone custom paint broadheads?
« on: May 22, 2011, 12:04:00 PM »
I'm making up some autumn orange arrows with white to blue faded wraps with blue nocks and natural turkey feathers. So far the arrows look great, but I was wondering if anyone has custom painted their broadheads to match the arrow. Just wondering what they would look like with some other color besides olive green (zwickey's).  Any pics would be appreciated.  Thanks

I once stripped some snuffers and used high temp engine enamel baked on in the oven. Hunted with Cat yellow snuffers for a few years. Alot of work for something expendable.

I have never heard of this.  What would be your reason for doing so?  I understand the arrows because target arrows are neat with a sense of flair but I don't understand hunting broadheads.  Is it just for looks or does it have a hunting application?

No hunting application at all.  The only reason would be for looks.  Just wondering what it would look like to have a somewhat matching broadhead color to the arrow.  I must be really bored.......I think moththerlode has it right.

I got some snuffers from Terry Green that had white stripes painted on them. Look pretty cool!

Covering Zwickey green might be some kind of traditional sin though.   :biglaugh:

I've worn all the paint off of a few heads from shooting them, and then resharpened and repainted them for hunting.  Just used a black spray paint. Taped the edges.  Suppose it would work with other colors if you were so disposed.   :dunno:

I would think the only thing you would be doing is changing the color.  I am trying to find 3 Magnus 1's to do this on.  I have a special arrow build I'm doing, and need a huge surface to paint and finish the build up.  So, I will be watching this to see if anyone posts some pictures.

Orion, I've done the same with the Zwickey's as they have worn or rubbed paint off, but just used an olive green close to the original color.  Mike, be sure to post pics when you get them done.

I would paint a few words on mine:

"This end towards vitals"

Or, perhaps better:

"No Pressure, Dude!"

I have stripped the paint off of them and then blued them with gun blue, they look pretty cool.

I painted "angry eyes" on some zwickeys a long time ago for a set I made for a banquet raffle. A lot like on fighter planes.

I tried painting some trade points I made with engine spray paint, it didnt stick very well. I didnt try and bake it on though. Cold blueing works well and looks pretty cool.

Like Jack, I have used the bluing pen on homade heads. Also use black sharpie on the edges and when the head looses some color!

I have some chromed Bear razors, from years ago, too!
