60/120 four fletch configuration
« on: June 25, 2007, 11:52:00 AM »
Do any of ya'll use this, and, if so, how well do you like it?  I was thinking of trying it for kicks on a couple of arrows sometime.

I know plenty of guys swear by that configuration. I've tried it with a couple dozen arrows and liked it. I still use the 90degree config because I just find it easier to replace individual feathers. I have not seen any difference in flight between the two but that's just me. I say go ahead and give it a try you might find you really like it.

A friend made up a set the first time for me about 4 years ago and they work perfect.
Tracy has some info on his site (Foxfire Traditinal Archery) about the differences, he's a wonderful and knowledgeable gentleman to talk with and a Sponsor.

Good luck.

I've shot 60 X 120* 4 fletch off and on for a number of years.  Recently I bought 3 JoJan indexers from 3Rs and went back to 4 fletch 90* with the small 2.25" feathers.  They shoot great on my aluminums, and 4 --3" or 4" fly great at 90* on my woody's. I think I like 4 at 90 better now. Might be mental :-)   Bill G.

The true effect of 60/120 can only be achieved if you lower your nocking point during the process. This is the main reason for going to this fletch orientation-to obtain the lowest possible nocking point.

I have used (and still do) the 60 X 120 set up.  I shoot only vanes, and love rthe setup.  It also gives better fletch clearance than the 90 x 90.  I use 4 - 3.75" vanes.  This comes out to 15", the same as if you used 3- 5".  THe vanes give a lower provile that the 5" also.  I fletch them in a hard left hand helical, and use a florescent "hot pink" color.  Very easy to see in flight, and find if you miss.

I have used this configuration since the late 60's when I was shooting NFAA tournaments.  Of cours back then it was shorter fletch and with feathers.
