Ultimate tab search over! Toelke Tab
« on: May 26, 2011, 10:09:00 AM »
I finally found the ultimate tab! Or should I say, it found me. After trying just about every tab out there, accumulating drawers full, I still had never found one that was just perfect. That search is now over.

I had Dan Toelke knock off a few pounds on a Chinook and he included one of his new tabs when he sent the bow back.

It's a simple design, but yet unique. It's leather backed, but the front is thick saddle fleece, like you'd find on a horse saddle. I had never seen such a tab.

It's the most quiet thing I've ever shot, doesn't seem to crease and can get soaken wet and shoots the same by just wringing out. All for $7 I believe.

I'm going to get another 3 of them just to have them.

Dan is a sponsor here. So if you like trying new tabs, you gotta try one of the new Toelke tabs. I suspect you'll be very pleased.

I agree, I shoot one of Dan's two finger tabs, best tab I have shot so far.  Dan has also taken a lot of time to help me with my release.  Dan's advise is some of the best that I have recieved.

Dan has as a lot of knowledge regarding all aspects of traditional archery.

I went to his site and can't find anything about a tab. Can't try one if you can't order one!

Did a search for the topic "want a better release" and found nothing by that title.  It sounds like an old tab from 25-30 years ago called the Lan Rich tab which had thick sheep wool fleece on the face of the tab.  The lanolin in the wool made it very impervious to rain.  Worked quite well, I guess.  I never tried one but a friend had one that he liked.  The old becomes new again like most things in traditional archery.
The years accumulate on old friendships like tree rings, during which time a kind of unspoken care and loyalty accrue between men.

I have two old Lan-Rich tabs. One has seen lots of miles. The other is still new in the package. Been saving it. I was wondering what Dan's new tab is like. Guess I need to order one. Thanks for the heads up.

Is the Toelke a split finger tab? Do you trim it to size like a normal leather one?

He will make you one any style you wish. It can be trimmed like any leather tab. I've been shooting one for two days so I can't lay down a verdict yey.

definitly sounds like a lan rich tab..they were made up here in NH before the fella moved down to west VA.  I personally never liked them..had to do alot of shooting with them to get just right IMHO
still have a few just in case....I perfer bare fingers myself..that way you cant lose them to easy  :)

I just got a couple of them last week. They are really nice tabs. I screwed-up and forgot to tell Dan I shoot 3 under, so I got Split Finger Tabs, but they still work great. I'm going to order a few more in 3 under.

They are great tabs. I was at Dan's shop picking up some new limbs he built me and he tossed me a tab and said "try this". I have always shot a glove, but haven't had my glove on since that day.
Real clean release and I think will be extremely durable.

Hope Dan is coming to Western States this weekend but he's not on the list and gas is high so i'm not holding my breath. Will have to check one of these out either way.
