Finally got to shoot today!
« on: June 25, 2007, 05:54:00 PM »
French Manny and his lovely wife came to visit today. Manny was picking up an osage stave that 4runr left here for him so he strung up my bows and we went out to play. Only shooting about 15 yards and my groups weren't up to my standards(I haven't shot in months) but they got better as the day went by. 90 degrees out there today and it felt every bit.

We had a lot of fun and my little guy Jake did some shooting too. Don't have any pics, sorry, but it was a blast. I had to short draw a bit but it was still all good.

Manny got to try a Black Swan Hybrid, Shrew Lil Favorite Scout, 1958 Bear Kodiak Special and Saxon American Recurve. I'll let him say what he thought of the bows.

Did something today I hadn't done before. 1 of my arrows got put into the stone wall behind my target and the tip snapped off. While shooting the Swan I accidently picked it up and shot it. Shot about 4 inches high and buried itself in the target. The way it flew you'd never know it was a busted arrow. Pretty funny look on Manny's face when he pulled it out. LOL

Horizontal drawing is fine, it's the vertical pulling that is not good. It felt sweet to draw a bow again. real sweet to get the arrows banging off each other after the long lay off. Shot only about 100 arrows and it was spaced out over a couple hours, so I took it easy.

Glad to hear your back shooting, but be careful and take it slow.100 arrows may be too much for the first time out after a long lay off.this is when those nagging little injuries like tendonitis in the shoulder or elbow occur.
best wishes

Glad to hear you were able to shoot today!  Hope those 100 arrow or so don't make you too sore tomorrow.

Good for you. I had hernia surgery in March and at that time the doc told me to wait 6 weeks to shoot, at the same time I was waiting on a new bow. Doc gave in after 2 weeks and let me try.
Take it slow and you will be back in no time.

Good health and shooting to you.

Oh yeah...that's got to feel good.  A big congrats.

Seems like you're going to have to stop the ol' swing draw for a while, huh.

I'll bet you start to prefer riser up while punchin' foam or paper after a while.  Always nice to have the swing draw in the arsenal, though.
