Black bear with 4 cubs......

We were up at our cabin in north GA over the weekend, Pickens Co., near Mt. Oglethorpe the  southernmost peak of the Blue Ridge mountains and had a momma bear come right by the deck just before dark. She had 4 little cubs that she left and they scurried up a tree up to 100-120 feet up. It was a sight. We had heard there was one with 4 cubs a few months ago and I'm glad to see they are susviving but have you ever heard of a bear with 4 cubs before? I've heard of and see triplets.

Our local UPS driver saw a mother and four cubs about a month ago.  I'm not sure if it's common or not, but I had never heard of it before.

not all that uncommon for a mother black to have 4 or even sometimes 5 cubs. a fellow I know here watched a mother with 5 cubs a few years ago. he said 3 were about the same size with the 4th smaller and the 5th pretty much a runt. he contacted the local DNR and was told that most likely the smaller 2 wouldn't make it. DNR said having them was one thing, all of them surviving was unlikely.

i had a bear by my house in NJ with 5 cubs last year.  i asked a biologist if this was rare and he stated that it is becoming more common these days because the bears have more food availible year round and are a healthier bear than one living in a complete wild area with no human influence.

I saw a black bear with 4 cubs about ten years back.  A rare site but great to see.

wow i rarely see a bear at all, but to see mommy with 4 cubs.  COOL!!!!

We have a Sow with twins hanging around here.

I have seen Sows with 3 cubs, but not with more. That would be great, does anyone have pics.

3 years ago we had a sow with 3 cubs raiding our trash container. Then last year we got pics on my sons trail cam of a sow and 4 cubs. They were less than 20 yards from the house, bird feeders gone, trash can of corn gone. So far this year we have only had one raid on the trash container, time to get the trail cam back out.
I hope she doesn't come back with 5 next year.
