Anyone shoot a Bear Grizzly 45# 58" AMO?
« on: June 25, 2007, 08:22:00 PM »
I just picked up a 70's model grizzly and am trying to get the right set up. It is a sweet little bow and I am chomping at the bit to take it hunting. I am torn about arrow selection. I am drawing 47# at 29". According to the charts I have seen, I would be shooting Easton 2016 with a 125gr broadhead. Or I could be shooting a Carbon Express 250. I am leaning towards the 2016 mainly due to price. I am hesitant to shoot woods at this time because I know I will destroy them in quick order. I was just wondering if anyone was shooting something similar and what results they had.
P.S. - I have been pouring over the pages here trying to soak up as much info as I can. Thanks to everyone who has posted. There is a treasure trove of valuable information on this site.

Probably better off with carbon express 150's. I have also found Carbon express Thunderstorm arrows to work very well out of my grizzly. I bought some a couple weeks ago for $46.00 dz. They will last you much longer than the alum arrows you are looking at. Carbon is a better value expecially if you like to rove and stump shoot. Good luck.

I have a Black Bear that is the same specs and I agree with D. Johnston...go with the CE 150's.  I am shooting GT 35/55's out of mine and still have 225 grains up front.  They fly great though and it is a great little bow.  I find myself picking it up more and more.  Mine has been around since I bought it new in the 80's so it is an old friend.  Good luck and have fun.

I have a 1967 Grizzly 47# - 58"

The 2016's fly perfectly!!!!!

If you go to woodies, get 55#-65# spine arrows, cut them 31",then taper and glue your points on.

Your finished arrows will be 30" to BOP (back of point) and will be perfectly matched for your bow.
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

I have a 50# 58" Grizzly(1972 model) and shoot CX Heritage 150's with 125gr tips. They shoot very good but are borderline stiff. Definately go with the 150's if you choose the Heritages. You may have to shoot a little more weight up front though.

It doesn't matter how or what you shoot, as long as you hit your target.

My son shoots a 45# 58" grizzly using 2016 with 125 gr magnus. Shoots very well. He uses the old side mount bow quiver as well.

2016's fly like darts out of my 60" 45# Black Bear with 125 grs up front. I draw 28" so I have them cut 29" BOP. They are pretty tough arrows. I have three that are over 30 years old and still shoot fine. One has a dent from hitting it with another arrow, but it doesn't affect the flight. I have knocked the nocks and fletches off with other arrows. Just glue on some more and keep shooting. Robin Hood a carbon and you can hang it on the wall. Some bows like aluminum better than carbon. My Black Bear does.

That being said. I still prefer cedar over either. Yup, you will break some, but they cost about half as much to replace as carbon...besides, making arrows is kinda fun...addictive actually.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but I also have a 58" grizzly @ 45# and I draw to 28". My question is since I like my arrows @ around   30"-31" and a heavy front end (200-225 grains) should I go with 2018s.

Try the CE Heritage 150's and if they are too stiff then go with the Thunderstorm. Both are great arrows. Have a friend who has many bows in the 45-52lb range and he mainly shoots the Thunderstorms cut to about 29" with a 175 tip. Great flight and tough as nails. I mainly shoot 150's till I get past 55lbs then switch to a 250 with 200 grains up front. My 150's are 28" long with 145 tip.
