String Material Question???
« on: June 08, 2011, 09:52:00 AM »
Hi all,

Been doing a few searches and am a little surprised that I cant find the answer to my question right away.

I am looking for a rundown/description of the different string materials available.  I want to buy some material to make strings for my fast flight compatible bows but there are lots of options out there and I dont know what is the best product for the money.  So what do you guys think?

http://www.bcyfibers.com/FAQs.php

That site should get you started. I typically use polyester materials myself but I have had good luck with D97 for speed and quietness.

There are so many great string materials on the market now. 450,D-10,D-97,8125,TS-1,Astro Flight,Ultra Cam to name a few. String is made basically by two different manufacturers, BCY and Brownell. If you are shopping for price, D-97 is a good deal and a lot of places sell 1/8lb spools. 8125 is also a good deal for the money. 8125 is a a little thinner then D-97 and is available in 1/8lb spools as well( these seem to be the two most widly used materials by bowyers in recent years). If you look at either manufacturer's web site you can educate yourself on the proprietary differences.

That's like asking what bow is best, what arrow is best, which broadhead is best...lots of opinions.

My personal preferances are Dynaflight '97 and Formula 8125--I also feel you get the most for your money with these two.

452X and 450+ are the ones BCY advertises as having "no creep", but they all have at least a little.

How the string is made, tuned, etc. will make more difference than most any of the different "FF" materials.
