rug rest problem
«
on:
June 10, 2011, 08:01:00 AM »
I am having problems keeping my rug rest from wearing out and even worse, from peeling off the at the front of the shelf. I shoot cock feather out so the botton hen feather shouldn't even touch the rug. I leave an open channel for the bottom hen feather to travel thru with minimal contact but still, the wear happens and the front edge of the rest starts peeling up. Any suggestions?

I added a dab of glue under the front lip of the rug rest - I think I used fletch-tite, actually (forgive me, it was an emergency and it was close to hand). I don't have the problem with the rug rest peeling up anymore, but I find I get a lot of wear on my rest too.
Be advised, if you glue the rest down now, it might be difficult to put on a new one in the future when the rest actually gets worn out.

Look at your tuning. It sounds like you may have a nocking point height or brace height issue.
My simple Velcro rug lasts for years.

Yep what Charlie said. and I use Barge cement on my rest/shelf materials, due to rain may pop off the adhesive.

Ditto the Barge cement. Does sound like a nock heigth problem. Too much contact on the rest. Mine seam to last for years.

Barge cement will not harm your bow's finish. If I remember right, the fletch-tite (maybe its Duco) will remove the finish!

Your arrows probably kicking down from some torque on the string. Put on another nocking point.

Im with Bowmania on this one. Try a double nock set, one above and one below. I don't think you have a glue problem its likely a tuning or torque issue. term

I had the same problem with my longbow- With what I thought was tuned really wasn't! It took abit of shooting before I had noticed wear on my rug rest on the out side lip of the shelf from feather contact! back to square one! replaced rug rest(velcro type)cleaning shelf really well!
Then using a talcum powder on rest to determine if any adjustments made worked! The two things I did was turned the nocks alittle and added a second nock pt under! Problem solved!!!
Then fine tuned shooting feild tips and broadheads!!

Can one you guys post a picture of your velcro rest? I have heard talk bout them but have not seen one. I have only used bear hair rests.
Thanks,
Matt
