Maine; Red light chat.
« on: June 13, 2011, 11:52:00 AM »
At a red light this AM, in Biddeford Maine, I spotted a truck with a "Traditional Only" sticker. As I pulled up along side him, I motioned for the driver to lower his window. I asked "Longbow or Recurve"? Answer; "Longbow"(with a knowing smile of course!). We had a brief 40 second, traditional focused chat. I didn't catch his handle, but he said he was a Trad-Gang member. Anyhow, you never know where us stick and string fanatics are, as few as we have become. It sure was nice to see that window sticker in a State FULL of high tech, metal, wheeled, arrow launching device shooters! I know there are a few trad archers in Down East coastal Maine, but further down this way, York and Cumberland County's, our numbers are very thin...LOL!!!

That's cool!  I had a fella follow me in my driveway last year after he came up behind me a saw my Trad Gang sticker. He recognized Cade when he got out, then figured out who I was after seeing my "famous" son, we had a nice chat and he was off....pretty cool!

Hit-or-Miss, Maine lost me to New Mexico about six years ago, because apparently "The Way Life Should Be" includes unemployment and a high cost of living.  I still go back regularly to visit family, but never have time to hunt.  There used to be a trad-only shoot near Durham every spring.  I forget what they called it, but it was a good time and drew shooters from all over New England.  Guess I'll have to get one of those stickers. - John

That shoot would be the Poke and Hope (the biggest of several)and takes place at the Durham rod and gun club July 9th and 10th.  It is a great time with some fun competitions and I think four different 3d courses.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.
