Feathers
« on: June 13, 2011, 08:50:00 PM »
I am building some arrows and need to buy feathers for the first time in years. I just don't have the right color. Where should I get them and which manufacturer produces the best feathers today.

Most archers use Trueflight or Gateway feathers. I've used both and prefer Gateway for their durability over Trueflight. I don't have to re-fletch as often as I did when I was using Trueflight.

I get my right wing feathers from Bowhunters Superstore in Wellsville, Pennsylvania. They carry both Trueflight and Gateway feathers. They have a website too.

Bowhunters sold out to Cabelas. I used to shop there when I was on the East coast and they were great. Not sure how much detail they will sell as a quick glance showed Bo fletching

Some would say that the quills are ground more consistently with Trueflight feathers.  Based on reading other posts on this site, I started out using Trueflight and have been pleased with them so I've just stuck with them and haven't tried other brands for comparison. Other brands may be just as good, but I've been very happy with the trueflight feathers.

I have always used Gateway feathers and never had a problem. Truflights are way overpriced in my opinion. I get my feathers at Bowhunter Supply or Lancaster. Roadkill, when did Bowhunters sell out, because I talked to Mark about 4 weeks ago and nothing was said then.

ps: a friend uses AMG and I'm going to try some next time I need feathers.

I would also like to know if Bowhunters Superstore in Wellsville, Pennsylvania sold out to Cabelas. This store is where I get my Eclipse X7 2212 full length shafts from.

If they sold out to Cabelas, I will stock up before their supply of 2212 shafts runs out because I know Cabelas won't carry the 2212 aluminum full length shaft size.

One caveat, Bowhunters Superstore and Bowhunters Supply are two different stores in two different locations so the owners (I'm hoping) are two different people.

Night Wing, I just got off the phone to Bowhunter supply and I quote" there has been no selling of the business to Cabela's or anyone else". Like I said I talked to Mark(owner) about a problem and he never said anything about that. I guess some would  rather spread falsehoods then take the time to verify their info...Crow

i use trueflight from 3rivers usually. might consider full length and a chopper as you can probably get a feather and flu flu out of each and save some money...eventually.

I use a lot of Gateway pre-cuts and like them. They are a good value in the 100 count packs. The colors are nice and bright and they wear well. The bases are good and they fletch-up nicely for me.

I get the 4" Shield-cut 100 packs of Gateway for $32 shipped (Barred are more). I four-fletch them.

I also use AMG and they are a good value too.

I have just started building arrows and I use white 4" Gateway shields four-fletched and I am going through a lot of them. I've found they're almost always in stock with good prices and service at either Kustom King or 3 Rivers.

But I check out any new source I hear about on TG!

Sorry if I was wrong. I called and was going to order some feathers and a recording said the sale was on. SORRY team maters. My mistake.  I use bowhunters and will now too

Crow, cast ye not dispersions. I called and got the recording. How/why would I ask additional questions? Had my credit card handy and expected to make an order. I have Cabelas 5 miles from my front door
Nice of you to cast dispersions on a fellow trad archer. you are as hasty to throw darts as I was trying to inform others. What would that falsehood have profited me?  Grow up and think before you caststones

Roadkill, I stand by my statement! If you read all your posts you are only trying to make what you did right. You heard a rumor , did not confirm it, and spread it. I will not argue with you about this. If a general statement bothers you so much, you have the problem not me. I would like to apologize to everyone on this post as this has taken it over and I regret that happening.....Crow
