Thanks Curt.
Brad & Brian stopped by the shop last weekend and invited Cash and I to come out to Brad's place for an evening hog hunt. Brad's property is at the base of the Sutter Buttes in Central California. The Sutter Buttes is the worlds smallest mountain range that sits right in the Middle of California's Central Valley an hour north of Sacramento.
Brad's family owns a large wheat field that is getting hammered by the hogs, which made it a perfect set up for Cash. We sat and glassed for a couple of hours and right before dark we spotted several hogs headed to the field including a couple of big boars.
They were headed for the far corner and we did not have much time to beat them to there. There was a ditch line we could jump in for cover to close the distance. I threw Cash my 3 1/2 year old son on my back for the most adventurous "piggyback" (pun intended) ride of his life.
We were able to cut this boar off and catch him coming down a fence line to get into the wheat field. I peaked up over the edge of the cover in front of me to see him headed our way at 35 yards. I swung Cash off my back and told him to get ready a boar was coming. A few seconds late I could see his ears and top of his back I drew and waited for for him to pass broadside at 15 yards.
Cash was able to watch Daddy shoot, see and hear the arrow hit, hear the boar grunt and clack his teeth at impact and then run off 75 yards before going down from a heart shot.
Right after the boar went down, Cash looked at me with excitement I have never seen on his face before and said "THANK YOU DADDY!!!! THANK YOU!" I reached down and picked him up in a HUGE bear hug and tears in my eyes and said no THANK YOU CASH! THANK YOU! A dream come true.
This was by far the finest hunting experience of my life! What a Fathers Day present. Thank you to Brad and Brian for a memory of a lifetime.
Happy Fathers Day to all of you!!!!!
