452 X string material
« on: June 18, 2011, 06:17:00 PM »
I was given a new spool of 452X string material at a local shoot today. Just wondering if it's any good for our traditional bows? I usually build all my strings out of Dynaflight 97 or 8125.

Thanks, Bill

I was told by Bcy that 452X is very popular in Europe with recurve shooters. It is also said that Martin uses it on their Real bows!

Similar blend to 450+, I would say if it was given to ya, free, nothing better!

Try it ya might like it!

Happy Fathers Day!

Andrew,
How many strands are you using? Just wondering what a safe number would be? Seems to be very thin material.

Thanks, Bill

Bill : I use 12 strands and still get a skinny string , material is very thin . I think you could use less strands but getting nock fit right is the only reason I use more. Good luck Drew

I have two spools that I haven't used...need to get them in the mix.

It is the same diameter as 8125 I believe...I'm going to play around with it some as I love 450+ and it a small diameter with the same make-up.

I was thinking 12 or 14 padded with some halo would be nice.

Thanks,

Josh

Josh,
So is 452X just a thinner version of 450+ ? Guess I'm just going to give it a try.

I don't think it's a so very good idea even though a lot of string makers use 450+ which is very close to it ...452x has the lowest streching coefficient what is not so good for the classic bows especially in case of dry firing (nock failure for instance, it has occured at least 5 times to me during the 10 last years)..its breakage strength is 75# so think also about that when you make your string and count yours strands keeping in mind an eventual dry fire...to the opposite the 452x make some very stable classical strings which fit the most in case of bad releases, but it's one of the most noisy fiber...I use myself some astroflight, once stabilized (stretched before) that's the most sweet fiber that you could find, very silentfull, accurate and quick (-2fps / 8125; +2/D97) and make beautiful round enough 12/18 strings . I think the 452x is mainly a compound fiber even though it needs also to be stabilized before using it on them, if not it will stretch very quickly also...In France (europe), FITA shooters use mainly both 8125 and astroflight now.
