Elk Setup 4blade vrs 2blade????
« on: June 20, 2011, 09:17:00 AM »
I'm shooting a 613 grain arrow. A Beman Classic 340 with a Muzzy Phantom SS 220 grain 4 blade at 182fps. It blows through whitetails and sticks 12"-14" into the ground. I shot 2 elk last year with a 3 blade and got a pass-thru on one (bull)(broadhead penetrated all the way through, the arrow was still in the elk and came out the off side as he ran) and about 24" on the other (calf) (quartered away, arrow stopped in the off shoulder). I would like to shoot the Phantom this fall because, I can get it sharper. I am wondering if I have enough power/momentum to shoot the 4 blade SS on elk or if I need to drop the bleeder and shoot the 2 blade. I also wonder how much less blood I can expect from a 2 blade. Thanks for any advice.

With the Speed your getting for a 613 gr arrow you will have no problem shooting clean thru a Elk with the Muzzy 4 blade .. That's what I would use.

I don't understand why a two blade with a bleeder gets tagged with the "4 blade" tag."

Your fine Hawk.  Its a two blade with bleeder to prevent wound closure.  Good broadhead.
You get to keep what you kill.  If it were easy there would be no value in it.
