From a stand and a close shot, I miss high.  I had a Doe 1/4 away on the ground once. the arrow was flying perfect and i was waiting to see it sink behind the shoulder, but she spun away at the last moment, nothing but leaves!

All my misses have been low either from the ground or a stand. I don't understand it but I think it has a lot to do with 'Buck Fever'.

High.  I find that when I have too much time to look at the animal, my nerves get the best of me and I miss my anchor and I shoot high.  Every time I've been surprised and didn't have much time to think, the instincts kicked in and I hit exactly where I needed to.

Silly adrenaline...

The last deer I missed, been awhile ago, on the ground, shot low. Didn't get to anchor! Online for sure! Excited, anticipating, had been wathing this buck for a time before the shot!

I think most who shoot high, usually do so because of the position and alertness of the animal...duck!

Another reason folks should be out shooting small game and such. Foam don't move, in the backyard!   :readit:

I missed a buck low this past season due to my string catching on a buckle.  I probably took 40 shots at squirrels this year, and only killed 12.  I will say that if they had been 3 inches taller, I'd have shot 30 or more.  I gave a bunch some new hairdos. I don't know if they were ducking, or if I was just missing high.

I did miss a few shots at coyotes.  I'm not complaining, though.  All but one of my arrows went exactly where I was looking.  The shots were a little long, and they had more than enough time to get out of the way. One, was trotting at around 27 yards.  He made a Barry Sanders move, and the arrow missed right in front of him.

Another was about 30 yards.  He literally sprawled on the ground and the arrow went right over him.

The last miss, I skewered the limb of a blow down I was trying to shoot through.

Obviously there are misses both high and low.

My belief would be that high misses are in the majority.

From a tree, always miss over, on the ground I miss under... funny how that works.

Over the years I had determined that the  bulk of my misses were high. As hard as I concentrated on the very center of the lungs, I most often would shoot too high by a couple of inches.

Last year I missed having any shot opportunities - how do I grade that?

On my 3-D I invariably miss low - but often I shoot for them at longer distances than I ever hunt.  Occasionally I have a real brain fart and go over the top from closer up.

Last miss on a live deer was over.   * sigh *

Very Nice!  Been waiting long to use that?     :)  [/b]
Actually yes....it is rare a thread comes up that lends it self to that response...had to take advantage of the situation...LOL

That is how I got the handle...on an elk hunt and returned from missing the same cow twice, once high and once low...

If it's not hitting a limb or tree or something, it's almost always low.
