Definitely a heavy arrow for that weight near 13gpp. 158 fps is not fast; however the combo including razor sharp head will get deep penetration (if not complete passthrough) on anything in N. America. Just curious...why so heavy an arrow? Bow pix?.

I would be very pleased with a self made bow that achieved those numbers. Home made or store bought nothing slow about 13 gpp @ 168.

straitera- I got shafts for Christmas and they were a little to stiff so I had to add some weight to the front to make em fly true. Hate to buy new ones....
PLEASE POST IMAGES NO WIDER THAN 640
Thanks for the input guys. Just wanted to see how mine stacked up.

Not super fast, but with that heavy an arrow you won't need to worry about penetration. Just make sure your bow's nice and quiet...once again, probably not a big deal with a that heavy arrow you're pushing.

Id say your trajectory to 30 yards will be decent, over that and you will really be on the back side of the arc so knowing the proper elevation for the range to target is more crucial when working in the fairly steep portion of the arc ..even a few yards difference @ target range makes a pretty big difference for a good hit., so knowing your trajectory is important.

That is a nice bow and I don't think the numbers are out of line at all.

I think those are good numbers. Evidently you must have a fairly long draw length to achieve that kinda performance from that heavy of an arrow.

Don't sound slow to me.
Being an ignoramus, I dont wont never have but one time shot through a chrony and that was due to shop owner being nuts over my then 80lb Wasp.lol
Same weight arrows I shoot out of 10-12lb lighter bows, BTW. They get from point A to point B quietly and accurately and do their job as intended......in spades.
What more could I ask for in a hunting set up?
A bow that "purdy" and I would care even less...if that were possible.
Congrats on some FINE work!
God Bless

Brushwolf, If you are accurate, and know you limitations you are good. I shoot a 38# LB with an arrow that weighs 430grs. or about 11.3gpp which chrony at a blistering 163fps, but it does what it is suppose to do if I do my part. Now for some food for thought; your arrow time to target(20yds.) .38sec.,my arrow .37sec, one at 200fps .30 sec. Can you quantify the difference(.08sec) between arrows yet all will work.

BrushWolf,
A 680 grain arrow divided by 54# gives you a 12.59 GPP arrow and with it traveling at 158 fps; at a distance of 20 yards and under with a broadside lung shot, equals meat in the freezer. You're good to go.
On a sidenote, you can easily kill an elk with your bow/arrow setup.

I love the answers, need more info. If you are draw 33"s and it is the latest design and carbon and foam cores than its ok, if self bow and drawing 28"s it is smoking fast. I get a kick out of these questions. Sorry some may think my answer is off base but think about the question. We need more info as to draw, bow design and material, string material and how many strands, they all contribute to a bows speed even if only 1-2fps per item they add up. Shawn

If your given a speed and an weight and asked if it will do the job, please tell me why we need to know all the "info"? I really don't know why that is so important. I think that the thread was meant as a general question.
