Toelke Whip pics needed
« on: June 24, 2011, 05:37:00 PM »
I am about a day a way from ordering a new Toelke Whip and would like to see some pics if you would be so kind as to share them with me.  I visited Dan and Jared 2 years ago, then again about a week ago, first time alone, 2nd time with my wife.  First time it was me saying "can I afford one of Toelke's bows?" and my wife saying the same.  Second time it was me saying "can I afford Not to purchase such a great shooting, great looking bow?" "Do I want to keep buying less expensive bows that don't have the ultimate fit for my style of shooting?"  and my wife met Dan and watched me talk with him and shoot his bows and seemed very receptive to the idea of ordering one.  She actually SAID "you should just get one".  After I picked up me jaw from offen ye ground, the fire has been burnin' hot.  So now I need to decide which woods to select.  I'm leaning on the dark side color wise but would like to see the looks of Whips that are in the hands of me trad. brothers and sisters.  So please, if ya would, show me some pics of limbs and riser areas and tell me what woods they are made of.  I really appreciate it.  This caveman needs a custom stick but when I get it, my head just might explode.  But I WILL be a happy little caveman!

Thanks,
TomBow
Best of Luck!

Just received this, my first, this week. Really love the way it shoots. The limb veneers are probably too light for you if you are thinking dark. For the riser I told Dan I wanted chocolate brown...haha
Isaiah 49:2...he made me a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver.

This was a stock bow that I purchased from Dan a few years ago and then foolishly sold.
Rich cocobolo riser with juniper veneers on limbs.
Great shooting bows.

Just got this the same time snag got his. I shot a whip last year at Western States and have been really wanting one ever since. Shot them again this year and couldn't resist any longer.. my first custom that was made for me.

The riser wood is Texas Ebony and the limbs are myrtle. There was one at Western States that was beautiful.. can't remember the woods. It wasn't the 64" which I wanted so I got this one and love it.

Here is my new Whip, Micarta and Osage & Bacote riser with black glass on belly,  Mora on Back.

Matching black and yellow string, with brown at the tips, I absolutely love it!! Shoots like WASP stinger!!

What brace height do you guys have yours at? Mine is a 64" bow and I have it at 7.5". Haven't had a chance to mess around with the brace height yet. As I recall Dan recommends 7"-7.5"...?

Green--What are the woods in the picture you sent?

All the bows that I saw when visiting Dan last week were b-e-a- yootiful!  Almost too beautiful to take into the woods....Almost!  I absolutely love the finish that he puts on the bows, makes the grain of the woods really pop.  And once I shot one, well, put me in the livewell, fry me in the pan because I am HOOKED!!

Thanks for the pics.  Anyone else please show me pics.

Thanks again my brudders,
TomBow (Tom Brissee)

The bows look amazing... What type of finish is that on the semi gloss bows?

The dark and light wood bows seem to have my number...

Tom - I believe the riser wood is bocote and not sure of the limb veneers.  Core is bamboo though.

Moffit - I think this bow started life with the matte finish....the grip area finish is now "hand oil"....cuz it has been shot so much...lol.  Limbs have the matte finish though.  I'm the third....and most likely last owner of this bow.  Nothing else I've owned or had custom made over the years compares.  Light, trim, quiet, fast, and deadly accurate.
