Banned, for the most part.  One can be creative, and look on that one site and find stuff made from it and get pieces that way, other than that, well you might as well be like them folks in hell, make friends with an Eskimo and you both got a chance at getting what you need!!!   :D

I just ordered a bow with seal skin on the arrow shelf. The bowyer name is Siim Talmar, and he lives in Estonia, north of Europe. Maybe him sell a piece of seal skin to you, if you cannot find it at US or Canada.

I heard one guy bought an old sealskin purse on the big auction site and cut it up for rests and side plates.

your best bet would be to find an eskimo, they can still sell it

We can get all kinds up here in Canada...they certainly not an endangered species...this whole banning of the importation is just a bleeding heart thing that you guys have to fix ... it is just plain stupid!!

Yeah this makes me a little crazy too. There are probably more seals world wide than deer, if truth be known. I bought a bunch of sealskin just as the ban was about to happen.

I'm looking into creating a synthetic sealskin for use only by traditional archers. It actually is four layers all bonded together. It's flexible and takes a beating. Never wears out over the years. I may copyright the name. 4Skin.

Dont get caught with it. No matter what you hear on this site, I was "schooled" by one of the largest furbuyers in the US and a friend of the family works who for US fish and wildlife both with the same info.. It is illegal to have in the US, no matter where or when it came from. You will be held responsible, period.
Now, on the other hand, I'm sure there are not wardens at every tree in the woods looking for it, I'm just saying know what you are doing. Marine Mammal Protection Act. Research it fully.

And the eskimo thing, they CAN sell it, so can Canadians, and you CAN buy all you want. Just dont import it into the country! No exceptions!

And by the way, I have seen more seals in  the Providence river this year than fish. LOADED. Cape Cod too, tons of them.  Politics.

Nice isn't it?  The greenies have just about killed the market for seal skin.  The seal hunt will continue because it has to, there are too many seals.  So now those beautiful and useful skins will rot because the hunt will be changed to a cull with a bounty per head instead of a hide for sale.

The natives can't sell hides, only significantly altered products. This isn't a recent thing.this is a 1972 law that has been in force since then.
