International Shipping rates

Ugh
I had a riser crack on me recently and after I thought all was lost, the bowyer asked for me to send the bow back to him. So I trod on over to USPS, no good, they wont send a package over 60". Next stop UPS, will do but will cost me over 500.00, give me a break, there's no way I'm doing that.
Anyone have any ideas ???

FedEx doesn't ship to where the bow needs to go.

It's possible to ship a longbow overseas by USPS. The length plus the girth of the package cannot exceed 79 inchs. However, you cannot quote on the USPS website, you have to bring the package to a USPS office. A friend of mine, here in Brazil, just took a 68" longbow from USA, and he paid only $43 for the shipment.

I did bring the package to both USPS and UPS. USPS will not send to Scotland any tube or box over 60". UPS wanted 560.00 USD to ship expedited. What I'm being told by UPS is that each location has the right to determine "other" costs involved, taxes, fees.

What service does 3Rivers use? They send met stuff to South Africa all the time and it seldom costs more than $45

Unreal, cost that much to mail a package overseas! Seems like a total rip off!

Make sure when they calculate the shipping cost you are not paying duty and taxes
which are charged by the country you are shipping to.you are only paying
shipping cost. there are box's to check off on the way bill
And if and when you ship you will have to have written paper work stating that it is
being returned under warranty.so this charge will not be passed on to the
manufacturer of the bow. Place a low value on the bow as well.
Good Luck.
Rodney.

Send some very good, clear photos of the crack to the bowyer, then discuss if the bow must be sent back, and ask if can be destroyed instead. Or possibly the cracked section cut off and sent back in a smaller more economical box.
When you explain the cost to send the complete bow there may be some room for compromise in "if and what" needs to be returned. You should be able to come to a compromise that suites both of you .
If he thinks it is repairable perhaps he will authorize a bowyer here to fix it and reimburse you .
