FRONT YARD ELK SURVIVED THE FIRE!
«

Prime Bowhunting land still has Elk in the Alpine Valley!
I was so worried about our property in Alpine Arizona after the big fire last month. We were finally able to go check on it over the 4th. I was so happy to see the Elk in the meadow in front of our place. There is usually about three times this many... but I was glad to see them. They stayed in the meadow in front of our place the whole time we were there for three days!

Good deal, you never know what the elk will do in reaction to a fire. I've seen them move and come back in droves when the new grass starts coming up again, seen them stick around and seen them move and not come back in any numbers for years.

This is how close the fire got to our cabin. I have been hunting in this area from this property all my life. I am so glad that it is still there for many Bowhunting trips and memories to come. Our place is in the lower left foreground and the burned mountain in the background is only about 400 yards away!
WAY too close for comfort!

Thank the firefighters. Boy, was I worried about my friend's two story winter home there in Alpine. He has all his African mounts in there.
I have stayed there a couple times, very beautiful country. So sad about the fire.
Those elk look to be doing great!

Wowww! That's close.
I would assume that once that burnt area starts to put out new growth it will be even better than before?

Glad to hear your cabin is fine. Sad that a lot of beautiful country is burned. I was up near Greer where my friend has a cabin and it looked about like yours. The fire burned up to about 3/4 of a mile from his place. Like Shedrock said, thanks to all the firefighters who worked so hard to put out the fires.

It's a shame and looks horrible now but that will be fantastic for hunting in about 3-4 years.

Alpine Arizona is one of the most spectacular places ive ever been. Truly beautiful area and met a cowgirl in the local watering hole named Darby, if one could only go back in time.

Well, the upside is that the new under story should make for even better elk populations in the future.

My personal opinion is that fires and logging are good for game populations. Every time I see either happen, within a couple of years the populations explode to take advantage of all the new undergrowth. Nice to see the cabin made it. Gary
