Anyone use an Ambush Saddle?
« on: June 29, 2007, 04:10:00 PM »
Just saw a DVD where the guy was using one.

Anyone got one/used one?

What do you think of them?

Never used one, but it looks like it would be very uncomfortable on your ankles, feet, and back after an hour or 3!

Got one last year at the end of the season. Used it one weekend. I think I'm really going to like it. There are some things to learn like what side of the tree to start on and how to set up your footholds but I think it's a lot better than carrying a stand in cause you can just wear the saddle. I know a couple of guys that use one and they have sold all their stands.

Hey Jason, how about bringing one or both of those when you come down to make a bow?  I'd like to try them and I'm too cheap to buy one without trying it first.  Perhaps I'll just hang around in a tree and supervise your work!

Dave, after you try it out how about some pics and your thoughts on the system.  I'm also interested,  and cheap.

I have used the Tree Saddle for the past two seasons and shot several deer using it. It's the best system I've ever used. Might as well sell my stands...they are all collecting dust. You can shoot much better form the Saddle than any stand and 360 degrees around the tree. It's very comfortable as I have sat in mine several times for 5 to 6 hours. No problems with your back or feet, but I recommend some cheap knee pads. It's also the safest system I've ever used...there is no way to fall out. I have got several of my friends to give it a try and now they swear by it.

Agree with Keith. The Greene's TreeSaddle is the best system I've ever used while treestand hunting. Once you've learned how to use it and shoot from it, you'll love it.

A buddy of mine bought one a couple of years ago.  I tried it out and it was awesome.  I have returned to mostly ground hunting, but I bought a saddle for that occasional time when I want to hunt in the trees.  Great product!

Not tryin to steal your thread, but has anyone tried a class III harness? doesn't have the back but is the same. Get that with some biners and you should be set.

On the other hand I have seen these and I take it they work well with trad? cool I never thought they would. Course never been in one!

Know I am gonna have to try one, but first I am gonna get a class III harness off the fire truck and hang off the fire escape on the side of our station! just to see if it works. Course I will write it up as training, high angle/deer rescue (kinda).

Later

I'll be glad to report (assuming that Jason sees this thread and brings his for me to try) but it looks like my report could turn out to be redundant!

So my question is how is it on your back?

I've had some lower back problems (sciatica) and that's what scares me about it.

Other than that possible issue, it looks like a great system.

I'll be trying one out this year, after reading John Eberhart's book looks like a good way to hunt these wary Michigan whitetails.

It was John Eberhart's DVD's that got me thinking about the Ambush Saddle. Got me REALLY thinking about them...

I saw on another thread where Boswell, who I know consider a genius, put 6 strap on tree steps on one ratchet strap to spread around the tree to stand on...I'm doing that if I buy one of these things...
