Whiffen fletching Jig
«
on:
July 20, 2011, 05:00:00 PM »
Does anybody use one? how do you like it?
I was talking with Larry and Grant Whiffen this past weekend about the jigs and all the other stuff they used to make and offer. Very cool piece of our archery history is the Whiffen Company. I saw a bow that had the Whiffen name on it but looked like a Howatt,Very cool bow.
I was looking for some insight on the Jigs as It has been years since I used one.
Thanks.

The Whiffen Comet is the same as the Hoyt Pro Hunter. Probably my favorite re-curve of that era. I like shooting the Whiffen better cause most people don't know about it

Should have those feathers today or tomorrow. I'm guessing this is what you'll be using.

I sill have my first. I think I got it when I was 12 back in 1955. Whiffen also made the popular Bodkin heads in the day.

Any other thoughts or comments?
I really enjoyed my talks with Larry jr. and Grant. They are some nice guys.

Snufer came thru like a champ! I got the jig today and it looks real nice. It is a "jr." jig. I must have used the pro model years ago,it was brass the jr is alum. Thanks again Les.
I posted this question on the history forum and some pretty cool pictures showed up. Have you ever seen a Qiffer or a Whiffreel?

Misplaced the one I had as a teenager. Bought a new one in the early 80's. It's the only brand of fletching jig I've ever used. Still works perfectly...Van

That one above has a helical left wing clamp. My previous one had a straight clamp and I offset it as far as possible. Don't even think they had helical back then :p ...Van
