Draw length...from a different perspective
« on: July 22, 2011, 12:28:00 AM »
We often talk about draw length as a function of height....what about as a function of suit size (jacket to be specific)?

I'm a 29" draw and wear a 46 Regular. Even though I'm not real tall, I have wide shoulders so that seems to add a bit to my draw.

How bout the rest of you?

I wear a 44 reg and have a 31" draw, but I really open up when I draw.
Life is a whole lot easier when you just plow around the stump.

That's an interesting theory and it probably has some truth to it. I wear a 46 regular and I'm only 5'-11" tall and I draw 29"

I am 5'11" and wear a 42 Athletic cut jacket and have a 29.5" draw length.

I think there are way to many variables to associate jacket size to draw length.

I am the same as Barrie except that I am two inches taller and wear a 42 Long suit jacket, but usually need to have the sleeves shortened slightly. One of my variables is that I shattered my left collar bone, and it healed a half inch shorter that it originally was, so my draw length went from 30" down to 29.5".

Obviously there are lots of variables that go into draw length. This just popped in my head last night based on some reading I was doing.

I'm 5'11" and just lost 60 lbs so I have no idea what suit jacket I wear anymore. They're all way too big for me. But I used to wear a 46R.I have monkey arms. My shirts are all 17/35. I draw 30".

Another thing though. Draw length can be affected by a number of things like your anchor and relative openness of stance.

Interesting
5 foot 11, 228lbs, 48 jacket

28 inch draw, same as it was when I weighed 190 or less, with a 44 jacket........YEARS ago.

Works for me. Sitting, standing, leaning, it don't vary much since "short" and easy to hit.

I`m 5'10" tall, and draw 29 1/2".

My knuckles drag the ground though. Seriously...my arms do not fit my body.

A 44 jacket is a tad too small, and a 46 is a tad too big.

I've read that one way to measure draw length is to back up to a wall with your arms spread.  Measure that distance and divide by 2 and 1/2 (if I remember this correctly).

For myself, last time I did this mine works out to 29.5" which is my draw length.

Note that one's arm lenght and width through the shoulders is what counts, now ones height.  Although, in general, ones height is probably pretty much related to ones arms and chest.  But, not completely.  I'm tall with a slender frame which give me a shorter draw length than some would suppose.
