Indiana doesn't require bowhunter education certification. However, Hunter Safety Education is necessary for those born after December 31, 1986. Indiana has a 100% on-line course for $19.50 but unfortunately it is for residents only. Indiana, like other states accepts hunter education certification from other states and provinces.
In Indiana you need only the NR deer permit for the equipment you intend to hunt with. Some states, like mine in KY require a hunting license and a deer tag. The prices for IN tags were provided above. (I thought the extra doe tag was $25 rather than $24 but it doesn't matter.)
I will qualify for a cut-rate license in a few more years. I will refuse the discounted license. The purchase of hunting licenses, especially for residents is soooooo economical and sportsmen have always paid the bills. I could have used the discount when I was in college but as I retire I don't need that kind of help any longer. I will likely spend $325 to deer hunt in Indiana this year in order to have a buck tag and two doe tags.
Ironically, I am within a mile of where this hunt is being planned, once per week these days. I'm headed to Brownstown, IN in 20 minutes in fact. My father-in-law owns 23 acres that butts up against the Jackson Washington State Forest. I've squirrel hunted there (years ago) but never deer hunted there. A persimmon grove is a magnet for deer on the edge of his property adjacent to a pond. My nephew has filled many deer bow tags from that grove.
I hunt in the Attica, IN area.
