Those numbers are from a bear takedown with 51# Rose Oak limbs,drawn almost to 54#,SBD string.The heaviest arrows penetrated the best.

Sorry,I didn't mean to get away from the original intent of the thread.I also think MN's setup is excellent and well thought out.Either of those broadheads should be great.Nice to be that prepared well ahead of time.I can just imagine the anticipation.It won't be long.Good luck.

Here are some # I got from different arrows out of a 45# martin savannah only drawing 26.5".


 

Now I'm drawing 29.75"
Have a 594grain arrow going 176ft/sec holding about 47#....594*176=104,544. still about 12.6grn/lb
Seems to be the sweet spot for this bow.

I would not even be worried about kinetic energy. Momentum is a better indication of penetration.

My shafts alone are 18gr per inch, and about 23gr per inch with head weight factored in! Dont quote me on this but i believe i had 15% FOC on them when i checked them this spring! Ive always been a fan of heavier more dynamic blunt force type setups than tryin to speed up things! Ive done some crude penetration tests with my setup using wet newspaper, cardboard, carpet, particle board, etc and it seems to surprise me every time, not just by the penetration but the durability of the head and arrow!

Every bow has a point of deminishing return. I've yet to fine any firm numbers of say GPP that will hold true on all bows.

To find that point you will have to do alot of testing.

As shown in the first set of numbers the middle numbers were close to that point. Yet Jim hasn't reached his yet.

When it comes to mominun you will never stop gaining. However, you will somewhere down the line hit a point where the average increase in mominum starts to slow down. At that point you have hit your point of deminishing return.

You do stop gaining momentum.
Look at the above posts.
After the arrow gets to a certain wt/lb the amount of momentum actually does go down.
