Story of a riser
« on: August 02, 2011, 06:36:00 PM »
I had an extra set of limbs for my Morrison Shawnee, and decided I would like to have a riser for them so I would have two whole bows.  After a while, I got a call from Bob saying that the wood I initially wanted didn't turn out to be strong enough for a riser, in his opinion.  I still wanted a riser, so I just told him to create one for me, with the only instructions being that I wanted two contrasting woods to be used.  He said he had a gnarly old piece of osage laying around that he though would be good, and that it would contrast well with bocote.  This is what he came up with.  To me, the contrast of the yellow osage against the prominent grain of the bocote gives it a kind of African look, which is concidentally enhanced by the kudu limb tips (which you can't see in the picture).

That will look even better when that osage ages! Pros like Bob can do amazing work when we untie their hands!

I sure like it! I have that combination in a bow, and the osage only gets better looking with age as it "tans" from UV exposure. Bob has created another winner -- no big surprise!

Never ceases to amaze me that when you get on this site everyday there is another good looking combo! You would think they have all been done at some time and maybe they have but it's the character in some pieces of wood with a certain overlay or limb veneer that just pop out! Great looking bow!

Wicked Nice !!!
I've heard some say Bob has slowed down but he keeps making these awesome bows. I recently picked an ILF riser from him, simply gorgeous.
