Hello Tradgang
« on: August 04, 2011, 11:06:00 AM »
Hello everyone, I'm new here at tradgang and wanted to say hello. I'm new at traditional archery and have found it to be alot of fun. It all started off about 1 1/2 months ago when my son came home from Boy Scouts with a Hickory Longbow,I could've bought one also but said I didn't need anything like that. Well I ended up finding a cabinet shop that had some planks of hickory, and built my first longbow.I couldnt find a string so guess what I bought a spool of B50 and made myself a flemish string (the internet comes in handy sometimes). I have around 15.00 and 30 hours and feel proud of what i had done. We took Some of the Scout Troop  to ETAR last weekened. and here i was with this homemade longbow and it was so cool no-one judged me cause of this stick i was shooting instead people wanted to check it out and ask me what it was made of, how i carved it out, how does it shoot etc. I want to thank all the people involved in triditional archery and all the websites with info on building longbows and to Our Scout Master of Troop 281 for getting the boys involved more in archery. it's 72" long w/ draw weight is 40-45 lbs at 28" 7 1/2" brace height it's not a real fast bow but gets the job done.I'm thinking of adding either bamboo or glass backing. Laid off and money is tight so it will have to do for now.

Welcome to the gang!
I'm glad you're here. Congrats on the self bow. Good job.
Word of caution...definitely do not do any searches about pretty bows. Your bank account will suffer and your wife will give you that look, at the very least.

Just stop now and build your own bows and be happy.

For your own good.

Welcome. I should have tried making my own first. As stated above the pretty ones get expensive! Nice work!
