Need to Build a Pronghorn Fence???
« on: August 04, 2011, 06:12:00 PM »
I have a couple of questions on building a fence to direct the lopes towards my blind.  How high does it need to be?  I'd have to guess at 30 to 36 inches, but being a flatlander I don't know.

And number 2 can you think of anything cheap to use for stakes?  I'll use parachute cord for the line from stake to stake.

Took me 10 years to get the permit.  Actually, quite a bit longer, because I didn't apply every year.

Thanks in advance,

Bowmania

Man it might have to be a long fence!!!
Might be better to just use an existing fence.

I have used survey stakes and rerod for stakes. I have had good results using 2 pieces of string at 12 and 24 inches.

Having your blind up a few days ahead is most important or they will just tear the string down so they can drink as far from the blind as possible.

I used decoy anchor rope ( from duck decoys) and any sticks I could find and about 2 feet high, they came right into my hole.....Tim

Good luck to you Bowmania, I hope you find a honeyhole for yourself.

One other thing that worked for me was using a full body antelope decoy at the far end of the waterhole. The antelope really didn't like it, and drank closer to the blind. I think a deer decoy would work the same way.

Or, try hanging a couple of them plastic grocery bags on the far end off of a stick. Sometimes that works, other times the antelope will drink right next to them.  :dunno:
