Finally crossed one off the bucket list
« on: August 06, 2011, 12:55:00 AM »
Went for a quick turtle hunt. Really I was trying to break in the new boots and let the dogs run around.

I had passed up about a dozen carp and seen many peculiar things making weeds move but out of the corner of my eye I saw the definitive motion of live game. It was quick,  but I noticed a good size turtle head out of the water eating leaves. I shot fast and hit him in the neck at about 8 yards.

The bow is a "Special" made by Pearson. 50 lbs at 28". The point was barely poking through the other side.  I just finished cleaning him at 12:50 am, going to bed so I can stump shoot early! His stomach was full of leaves!

If I like it, I know theres many more in there, some much larger!  This one was a male!
Relax,

You'll live longer!

Skin the neck for a handle wrap and the feet for some cool decorations. Then enjoy some good soup.
Oh, and clean up the shell for a nice addition to the hearth.

Very cool Charlie!  That should make for some fine eating and some great keepsakes with the shell, feet, etc.
Nice looking boots too

When I was growing up in Illinois we used to catch Snappers pretty regular in the summer time. Alot of work cleaning them but the meat is delicious.

Thanks for all the great words guys   :campfire:

Chuck,  That's exactly what I was thinking.  Do you know what the best way to "tan" the hide is?  I have all he skin. The tail could make a great knife sheath.  I Cleaned him with your Mora clippers!
