Cool beans, great shot and yep they are a pain to clean. I use a hammer and chisel to pop them loose from their shell at the head and the tail. I also don't skin them but scald in boiling water and scrape the skin off. Chris

Charlie, I think you could contact VanDyk supply for some info on reptile tanning. I am sure they have some kind of stuff to do it at home.

Did you have a frosty in the can cooler while dressing the critter? did you take any pics with the gear and turtle?

Only had 3 pictures left on the camera so no cleaning or gear pictures. I was fortunate enough to have a neighbor come and take the few pictures I have.

I did have a peppy le'peu walk right behind me as I was cleaning turtle.

Chuck the can cooler is great as long as I keep it in my hand. Once  I set it down it dissapears. What ever that camo pattern is, it works.

Ernest, The boots are made by Meindl. So far I am quite pleased.

Tomorrow I will be slow cooking the legs and tail like I would ribs on the grill. All the rest of the meat will be used in a soup or stew.
Relax,

You'll live longer!

Looks like a snapper & great for turtle soup. Tastes better than chicken.

That is the same pattern we use in our felted wool vests.
It has been a good many years since I had me some turtle, My buddies Dad cooked some every year for us. Mighty tasty.
