How to detur turkeys???
« on: August 06, 2011, 12:36:00 PM »
I have a serious turkey problem and want to find a way to keep them out of the feeder?  Anyone have a foolproof way to scare them away so they don't clean out the corn before the deer can show up?

I tried a coyote decoy but they don't give a damn about it. I know what some are thinking..."just shoot them".  Unfortunately I have only 3 tags and there are 150-200 turkeys.  Pretty overwhelming.

I use the feeders in the middle of a dry field like a food plot but the turkeys know the timer and pile in there and wipe out the corn in a couple minutes.  I'm tired of spending tons of money on feeding these damn turkeys.

Ideas please??

An owl decoy might work better and not spook the deer. Wish I had your problem.

Set your feeder to go off before day break and/or dusk. Then you can feed coons too.

Good point.  Have it go off while they are on roost?

One possible problem with having the feeder go off at night is getting the deer used to coming the area in the dark if it's a spot you plan to hunt.

You shouldn't have much trouble finding some friends to hunt there next year.
