Sure am - just got back from a few days in Chicago.  A bit of friendly advice - NEVER go to the Taste of Chicago on July 3.  In fact I don't think I will ever go back.  I never knew there were so many people in the world as what were there.

Family vacation to Washington D.C and one more week of Boy Scout camp and I can get serious about the hunt.

LeRoy,

There were times when we were shoulder to shoulder with a crowd that was just barely shuffling along.  Never again.

That's no fun. I'd much rather be in the middle of nowhere listening to the skeeters.

I'm still here!  It has been crazy around the office.

I set up a tree stand to practise from.  Any idea how far the shots might be?

Also, how many stands should we taking?  I have a hanging stand and a climber, will that be enough?

It's about time I start preparing my hunting clothes.  Last time I went I took all my camo and put them in an air tight tub.  But I also took a large zip-lock bag and filled it with green pine needles that I snapped as I put them in the bag.  I poked some pin holes thru the bag so the smell could get out but not the needles.  Then I tossed it into the tub and sealed it up.

When I opened it in Canada, all my clothes smelled like a pine tree.  I saw bear every day until I got mine.  So, I should probably try it again.

Can't wait,

Carl

I'd say our max yardage will be 15 yards. I had this discussion with Tim at Ituksum. He was wanting to know so he could plan for our setups. I'm probably only going to take one stand and a couplwe sets of climber sticks so if I need to move I can pretty easy. I got one of my new bows for the trip last week and I'll be shootin it from here on out.

Good luck guys and have a safe hunt,,can't wait to see and here the stories that come back,,

I have just a couple exzerpts from a neet stroy I'm reading right now,,The story of St. Hubert,,the hunter who hunted on good friday and saw a stag with a cross between its antlers,,

1-Caveman instincts bond all hunters when they're in the field - no matter what modern civilization has done to each person.   :campfire:

2-Anything from smearing the blood of a freshly killed deer on your face (similar to war paint) to saying a brief prayer of thanks to loud whoops, or simply firm handshakes all around pretty much describe the range of activities surrounding a freshly killed deer, elk or bear here in America.  It certainly is a rite of passage for a youngster to take their first big game animal and it's an experience they'll never forget.
Regardless, giving thanks to the dead animal, and to God, for the resulting nourishment must be what it's all about.  Respect for the fallen, and seeking a blessing for the meat, and honoring the death of one of God's creatures must be the catalyst for these traditions.

3-So, if you wish, say a prayer of thanksgiving or ask a blessing of St. Hubert when you kill your next deer or elk; just remember to honor the death of the wild animal and utilize the meat with respect. It died so that you might live.

Guys, have a wonderfull time in your hunt and jorney,,Jason B..

The time is flying past us now. I'll be starting to do my serious tuning this weekend and I'll  also be shooting from my elevated position from now on. Keep your shots to 15 yards and under boys we're gonna get up close and personal.
