New to the Site

Hello everyone, my name is Captain Clay Gibson, and I am currently deployed to Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain Division.  I will be home this fall, hopefully by late October, and plan on picking up Traditional Archery.  I bowhunt a good bit with a compound but I think I need to slip over to a more elite class of hunter.  That being said, I was just wanting to introduce myself and ask any pointers you may have that pertain to this site.  What to say, what not to say, so on and so forth.  I am a member of many other forums such as Snipers Hide, and they can be pretty cut-throat.  Thanks for the advice, and BE PATIENT, I have a whole lot of questions for you guys and gals out there.
Thanks again

Welcome Clay!  You will find that this site is much more friendly than most any other on the web.  There isn't any trash talking and flaming here.  It's just a nice site to learn and enjoy the camaraderie.

I saw your other post on the flatbow.  That question would be better asked here on the PowWow.  There is nothing wrong with that bow.  It's nice and a great price, however my advice would be that you might want to start with something lighter.  Most folks are more comfortable starting out with trad gear around the 40 - 45# range. Shooting a 70# compound doesn't translate readily to shooting a 55# flatbow.  If you overbow yourself in the beginning you will likely develop bad habits and end up getting frustrated. A lighter bow will allow you to learn proper form and technique without struggling with the heavier draw weight.

Welcome to the family, Captain.  And don't be afraid to ask questions.  Lots of different answers on here:)  And be safe and thank you for your service.  I can't wait for my brother to retire in 2 years from the army so we can spend more time together.

Welcome to the gang capt.  Thanks for your sacrifice bro.  You will have a good time here and trad is a lot more fun than compound.
