Mountain Hog Huntin w pics
« on: July 02, 2007, 05:43:00 PM »
Had the opportunity to do some hog huntin in the beautiful Cumberland mountains in Monterey Tennessee.  Here are a few pictures taken during the hunt.
Notice the mud on the side of this boulder, the boars were using it as a scratching post.

This little fellow was very curious of what I was up to...

These looked promising so I decided to find a place to sit and wait...

With arrow nocked and ready I sat patiently  "[dntthnk]"   waiting to see what was coming from behind as the squeals and grunts were getting louder.  The first group failed to make it to the wallow and headed of up the ridge to my right...

And it turned out to be a good move  ;)   as they rest of the stragglers got closer I picked out one to pursue...

I managed to get close enough to take this picture but as I moved out from the cover to try and get a shot I was busted.  :banghead:   and up the hillside he went.

I was able to get around the topside and into position a second time and waited for what seemed like forever when there was some noise and movement as the first group appeared but they were smaller and then He came out and I took the shot at 27 steps and hit a bit high and back from where I needed to but had arrow out of both sides as he rushed down the mountain and into a second group of hogs... Wish I could say it was an easy tracking job but it took several more arrows to anchor this boar. He was determined to get away but I was determined he wasnt.  :readit:    In all the excitement I failed to take pics of the arrows and blood trails but the meat is in the freezer.

I used a 59# @28 Morrison recurve and Arrow Dynamics Trad Heavies with Muzzy Phantom 220 grain heads but the Coupe de Grace was delivered with a Simmons 160 grain Landshark. It was my first Russian Boar.
