i need a hunting trip
« on: August 11, 2011, 09:14:00 AM »
Help....I need some suggestions...   I live in South east Pa and the deer population has gone down hill where I hunt.  I am itching to go on a hunt fairly close and I am happy to hunt does but want a placed where the deer crop is decent.  I looked into Working Man's Guide Service in SE Ohio but they will only allow me to shoot a large buck.  Anybody have recommendations for a guy with an itch to spill some blood to the earth with his longbow.

What Steve said. Just don't come up North where I am. Population has gone down here but I hear from Indy-Southern Border they're overloaded.

There's a lot of good public land in SE Ohio with plenty of deer. Our group sees P&Y bucks every year, and getting a shot at a doe isn't terribly difficult if you put a little time in.Check out Wayne Natl. Forest.

You are not far from Stuben county New York? I hunted there quite a bit years ago and it was smokin'.  Not sure about now. Lots of farmland willing to grant hunting privelages for some venison.

I'm planning a trip, maybe 2 weeks, to Ohio starting about the third week of Oct. I know a nice state forest, 3,000 acres. Haven't been there for years, but expect it's still good. Has a basic campsite. I took 3 bucks the 2 years I hunted it, and saw some nice bucks taken.

My second option was to try Wayne National Forest. 250,000 acres, and they allow dispersed camping there. I reckon if you get away from the easy access points the chances of getting into nice deer is good.

NY is appealing.  I hunted Allegany county about 5 years ago and was very impressed.

Ohio for two weeks would be heaven.  Being a teacher I can't swing it.   :(

If you can find a few days and are willing to travel a few hours I would be more than happy to put you up a tree in a good spot in one of Wv Bow only counties. Some dandies down here, I killed a 184" N/T there in 06. Its steep and tuff hunting but Im always on nice bucks !

I tagged this little guy at a small private farm in western PA. Going for a doe to fill the freezer and this brute walked by. PA is a BIG state, lots of good areas to search.

I don't have a lot to offer but if anyone is interested in an early season hunt you are very welcome to join me.  Season starts for Doe archery September 17th and there are tags available for my area which is 5C.  If you have a climber you may have a very good chance.  I can't use a climber due to an old back injury.
