Man purse vs. testosterone
« on: August 12, 2011, 10:35:00 AM »
"They" say (whomsoever "they" are) as a man gets older, he produces less and less testosterone. Given that hypothesis, a few years ago I would not be caught dead anywhere near a man's over the shoulder hand bag. Then my hunting buddy, Bill, began carrying one when we would go to woods to scout or hang the deer stands. At first I shamed him and wouldn't let him bring that thing in my F150. After a few months, I relented and let him bring it. But when we stopped for lunch or gas, I made him leave the cussed thing in the truck. I didn't want to be seen with him carrying a purse (if you catch my drift).

Last year, my wife and I made a trip to Israel. I needed something to carry snacks, travel brochures, passports, camera, etc. on the tour bus. So I purchased a L.L. Bean Messenger bag. It made access to items extremely convenient and worked really great. Early this year I ordered several items for this upcoming hunting season from Teresa Asbell. In her generosity, she included one of her GFA haversacks free of charge. I'm very impressed with it, will carry it when hunting and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Now, as I write this, I'm sitting here wondering if I have traded my two testosterone producers for a LL Bean Messenger bag and a Teresa Asbell haversack.

Well Ric, this is what I say when guys snicker at my Crocs for example.  "I'm firmly entrenched on the MAN side of my hetero-iness and my psyche can handle it............if you, on the other hand, are a little on the fence over yours - I understand."

if its holding a big knife,  Bowie preferably.... or a 1911,  the man purse actually INCREASES your testosterone.

Edited to add-    just dont bring the "fanny pack" back....  there is no hope for those,  they drain all hope for your manhood.

Outside of how one would carry them they are as convenient to use as my Sporan that I wear when I wear my Kilt so I never give it much thought cept that they are handy when you need to access items you are carrying.

Ken -

Can you make one that will hold a 4" S&W Model 29 .44 Mag., three HKS speed loaders and a Randall 25-5? I think that would go a long way towards a positive T level.

when i got my CWP my instructor said when see an "older" guy with a man purse or a fanny pack i know one of 2 things is going on. 1) he's pcakin' heat (most cases). 2) his wife got it for him and he dosn't have the heart to tell her the truth about it.

God Bless "Ric O'Shay" for finally coming out of the closet. I was getting tired hiding my bag in the back of the truck so I could ride in the cab with the AC.

Still just like shooting the trad bows. Not much into the trad attire, but I don't think it's a testosterone thing. Good luck with it.

When guys bust on me for wearing something less than manly, I just ask them why their wife won't let them wear what they want. You get some different reactions......LOL!

Funny Dan. Made me laugh.

Hope this Army issue field mask bag qualifies. Used & repaired often for decades. Sometimes w/another leather haversak. Lately I've pared down eliminating things I don't need.

Maybe I just don't get it because, men have been using shoulder bags for a few hundred years. I'm only 43 and have been carrying some sort of shoulder bag hunting or just running around for more than ten years now. I don't usually get a lot of headache over it either. Maybe it's because my shoulder bags don't look like purses, I don't know. I do know, they come in handy when you want your hands free of keys, cell phone and whatever else. I usually carry a small note pad and pen for writing down information.

Perhaps it just comes down to the style and look of the bag one uses?      I'm pretty sure my testosterone level is still good to go! I'm in the military and can still handle some of these young recruits!   :D
