Hellow ,
I was bord this evening so i thought i would play around.i shoot a 60in 53@28 draw 27.50 rec bob lee.my present shaft combo i was shooting threw paper 12-18 feet perfect holes.so i looked threw my junk al shafts layin around i saw i had some 2114 cut to 28.25 played with dif tip weights 145was pretty good but 175 heads were nice uniform holes . i know its not bareshaft tuning but seems to soot just like my current arrow combo.would 2114 wall thickness be to thin for hunting whitails that is if broadheads shoot well that 2114 arrow weight was 524grs.

Sounds like a good set up . never shot a whitetail but have shot quite a few hogs with 2114 and they did the job no worries!

I may get flamed for this but, I'm not in the technical aspect of the archery shooting. I don't have perfect form I shoot the way I have for the past 15 years and shoot just fine. I don't weigh my arrows, BH, and all that stuff. If you can easily and accurately put the arrow on target with the setup you have make sure your BH is sharp and go at it. Like I said I'mnot technical I just use what works even if it's not technically correct.

I have some 2114's for a similar setup and they are fine. My bows are 50@28 though. Of course a lot of it depends on how your bow shelf is cut as well as other things but if you ever get a hold of a 2016 give it a try.

Forty-seven years ago when I started bowhunting with aluminum arrows, "wall thickness" was never an issue when it came to bowhunting whitetail or mule deer. The issue back then was in an arrow's GPP which stands for "grains per pound". Back then, most bowhunters were hunting with 9-12 GPP aluminum arrows.

Deer have been killed with arrows ranging in spine and "wall thickness" from 1716, 1816, 1916, 2013, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2113, 2114, 2115, 2117, 2212, 2213, 2215, 2216, 2219, 2312, 2314, etc.

Wall thickness only came in "vogue" with regards to "stump shooting". I shoot a 2212 aluminum arrow. I don't shoot at stumps since a 2212 will have it's tip damaged from splitting if I hit a very hard stump. I go roving where I shoot at pine cones, large leaves and anomalies on a dirt bank. No damaged done to my 2212 when practicing this way.

When shooting at a deer, the 2212's tip won't be damaged nor will the arrow be bent if it hits a deer and it's a complete pass through. The 2212 will bend if the shot is not a complete pass through and the deer falls on the protruding part of the arrow. But, then again, a 2016, 2114 arrow will bend too.

The 2114 arrow shot from your 53# bow will easily kill a deer if you put the arrow in a vital spot. Since the 2114 weighs 524 grains, you're shooting a high end 9+ GPP (grains per pound) arrow. If your 2114 gets a complete pass through on a deer where the arrow exits the deer and is still flying in the air; after you find the arrow, do a spin test, re-sharpen the broadhead, re-fletch the arrow and the arrow will be good to go again.

I shoot the same poundage or maybe a shade less and I agree with TJ. Get hold of a 2016 and give it a try. A faily durable arrow as well. With different bows I shoot them with points ranging from 125-225 grains.Don`t know what the arrow weighs but it will crack ribs.RC

If I'm not mistaken noted bowyer and hunter "Jack Howard" called the 2114 Easton shaft the most forgiving shaft made. He used and recommended it right up to his death. If it was good enough for Jack its good enough for me.I'm not finding fault with the 2016 recommendation. That is also a good shaft. I just don't find that it shoots as well in my heavier weight bows as the 2114.

I remember when I shot aluminums I had a 50# recurve and It was either 2114's or 2016's and both shot perfect and if I remember right the 2114's are 64# spine and the 2016's where 61# or I think.

I remember asking that same question you did and I got replys from a bunch of folks who used 2114's and basically yes the wall thickness is on the thin side but if tuned perfect and its hitting perfect then it will work fine on whitetails,, the 2016's will have a stronger wall and they are skinnier so more center shot or I guess they should be more consistant but whatever,, I liked the 2114's better and won alot of shoots using them BUT missed every deer I shot at suffering from buck fever and not picking the spot--> they looked perfect flying over their backs though    :biglaugh:   .
