Oh man.... that doesn't even look good wrapped up.

Best of luck.  A lot can happen in 16 days.

Your one and only concern at this point should be recovering the full use of your hand. There will be many other hunts, but you need both your hands, and replacement parts are difficult to find. Take care of yourself. Sorry you have to deal with the pain and the (hopefully temporary) handicap.

Doesn't look like you're going bear hunting-future use of your hand is paramount!!  Send that photo to your guide service, maybe you'll get some of your money back.

I've had 6 surgeries on my hand, do EVERYTHING they tell you. Including hand therapy. Sounds stupid and pointless, but so important or you lose ability. I know, I screwed it up by pushing it before healing and added years to the misery.
Don't mess around, the bears will simply be bigger next time you go.

Total Bummer...but you got solid advice.

They're surgeons for a reason...they know how to put humpty-dumpty together again and it's wise to listen to them...

If they say Don't!  Dont!

when I can start rehab, I always push to know where the line is between "pain" and damage.

They don't understand that cause most folks want to avoid pain, but you NEED TO KNOW!  Pain is either a symptom of your body being ticked off for what was done and it's ok to push thru...or, PAIN can mean that you're doing damage to what they fixed!

Listen to the Docs!
The words "Child" and "terminal illness" should never share the same sentence! Those who care-do, others question!

I would like to thank everyone. But even though I have everything ready to go. broadheads sharpened etc etc. I may have to face the fact that I might need to use another weapon than my longbow. things could be worse. thanks again.

Earl....that just happened to my  "go to" bow limbs 2 days ago. Now I'll be shooting a longbow I've never hunted with before, making new arrows for it right now, I'm no where near ready to hunt, too busy, torn rotator cuff in my bow shoulder, my new longbow is noisy on release. I'm pretty sure I'll see lots of bears, have the biggest one I have ever seen jump the string, You, however, will have a large boar broadside at 10 yards and will wish you had any kind of bow to shoot him with. It never seems to fail that when we are the least ready or hurt or sick the big ones show up. By the way. what's with the hand?

I talked to Eldon today and the baiting is going very well and they are already being hit hard. Weather permitting I think it will be a good hunt this year. We'll be leaving in about a week.

Really sorry about your bad luck. Take care of that hand, and use whatever weapon you can. No dishonor in it under the circumstances.

Be safe, have fun, and good luck!

Snake eyes 16 days before a big hunt.  What a major downer.  I sure wait for it to heal right before pushin though.

Sorry that had to happen. Lost a finger a few years back and had to hunt with a gun. No shame in that. Take care of that hand first.

Real sorry to see that but do what you have to do to get it back to normal. Better to miss one hunt than a bunch.

Earl;
Take it from a Pro with severed tenion's ...Listen to the Dr's orders...Do your therapy and you will be shooting again...If you miss this trip and can't shoot it will be o.k...I missed about 5 years of hunting due to a log splitter accident that nearly severed my hand all but a pc. of skin tissue back in 1985...If you look at your pic where your thumb and first finger meet in that webbing imagine cutting everything from there to the other side mid palm area and that includes tenions ,bone ,muscle and meat and then having it reattached with numerous pins and tenion reconnstructiion from pc.s from my left leg past the calf...It drove me crazy not shooting a bow for years but I was truly blessed to have God spare it and I shoot with that hand today...I was Very lucky cause it took two hours before we got to the hospital and Dr's were unsure of saving my hand but told me they may remove it due to the time it took to get there..The parametics kept it wrapped in gulls and ice packs and a police escort got us to the hand center as quick as they could....Short story long you will be shooting before you know it...Take care of it...Keefer's <><
