Smokeys pre-orbital lure
« on: August 20, 2011, 03:58:00 PM »
I remember hearing about it for the first time on here last year, was just wanting to know how many of those that tried it last year are planning on doing so again.

Thanks,
Nathan

We shot 3 bucks out of the same scrape in one week with Smokey's Preorbital Gland lure last fall. YES, I will be using Smokey's again! We already have it going.

Gene and I get twice as many pictures on trail camera sets when using the pre-orbital as when not. BW

Charlie just get on Smokey's site ( he's a sponsor here ) Smokey's Deer Lure. It will tell you how to use the products. Once the deer start scraping along with the preorbital gland lure I was also using the interdigital gland lure down in the scrape. Bucks were TEARING up these scrapes I was using the interdigital in! I'm guessing that the more dominant bucks were trying to get rid of another bucks oder from the scrape. Some of my scrapes were tore up down to the clay! Really impressive stuff.

Wow Guys, that's what I was hoping to hear.  I didn't know he was a sponsor on here. Even better.

Thanks again,
Nathan

Not pre-orbital but bought cover scent from Smokey last year. IMO, he's genuine solid country boy with a big bunch of trapping experience & easy to deal with.

Wish I could say the same, I tried it 5 places  I hunt last year, pre rut and rut, nothing, nadaaa, zip. I usually dont use any scent, used to use Tinks 69, till they went to a plastic bottle, not nearly as good. Code blue products worked much better, when I use them. Several of my buddies tried it, nothing either. I guess I am the odd man out.

Before I ask this question, I want everyone that reads this to know, I am super cheap, lol. So with that being said, how long does 1.25oz last? I will be the first to admit that when it comes to using sent's, I am not the most knowledgable guy to talk to. The only scent that I have ever used that I for 100% worked was a gel type that I just opened the jar in the stand with me and watched a buck walk in from downwind with his nose in the air licking his nose and searching for where the smell came from. You shoulda seen his eyes when he seen where it was coming from, lol. Thanks for any advice guys. Mike

Good stuff, great pic and buck Fred.  You may be on to something with that extreme back of center weighting, that heavy nock must drive those splinters right into the bloodstream.  Deadly stuff right there   :biglaugh:

Now is the time to start using it along field edges (even when bucks are in velvet), perimeter activity will start soon and scrapes will tend to open up earlier.  Mike

last year was first year using his product...it will not be my last.  ordered the preorbital from him...there was an issue with his computer and he was late getting it out to me so he threw in a bottle of the interdigital free.  I had a mock scrape loaded with both and trail cam on the scrape.....in one week I had 18 different bucks visit the scrape!!! I will be using it exclusively this year! PaLongshank

This year will be the test . And Barry since I changed back to wood arrows years back I've been fortunate to have a collection of blunts . It's not that I'm a good shot I just shoot alot . And Mike that's an older Silvertip that I took out of retirement again , shoots better than myself . Biggest advantage I have found with Smokies lure is that it really seems to calm the deer down , which in turn calms me down . Fred

To answer hardwaymike's question a bottle of the preorbital could easily last you several years. Now if you are running as many cameras as Gene and Barry are you are going to use more. If you are running maybe two cameras a bottle could last you 5 or 6 years?? I just dip the tip of the branch in until it touches the preorbital. I do this on three or four branch tips and you are done. Smokey lives like 10 miles from me. I was trying to talk him into making a short video to explain the procedure some more.
